Trends in morbidity from angina
There are only a few studies which have examined the change in the prevalence of angina over time and these studies do not present a complete picture. However, these studies suggest the prevalence of angina in men may be falling.
The British Regional Heart Study shows a fall in the prevalence of angina (in this case as measured by questionnaire) in men aged 50-64 between 1978 and 1996. But of course this does not preclude an increase in the prevalence of angina in older age groups.
More recent data from the Health Survey for England shows that between 1994 and 1998 self-reported prevalence of angina fell by around 20% in men but was unchanged in women.
