One in every 145 babies in the UK is born with a congenital heart defect.
The prognosis for babies born with congenital heart disease has improved dramatically over the past 30 years. Now over three-quarters of babies with congenital heart disease are predicted to survive into adulthood.
Currently in the UK there are approximately 150,000 people aged 16 and over living with congenital heart disease. It is estimated that the number of adults with congenital heart disease in the UK will grow by 25%, and the number with complex conditions by at least 50%, between 2000 and 2010. |
