The incidence of coronary heart disease in Scotland can be tracked using the ISD (Information and Statistics Division) linked data set.
This shows that the incidence of CHD has fallen in Scotland in recent years. Between 1994 and 2003, incidence fell by 14% in men from 585 to 501 per 100,000, and by 19% in women from 449 to 366 per 100,000 in females.
Incidence rates for CHD vary by health board of residence. In 2003, the highest incidence for men was in the Western Isles (555), and for women in Argyll and Clyde (289). For men, the lowest rates were in Shetland (309), and for women, Dunfries and Galloway (163). |
